The Art of Letting Go

I won’t say ‘letting go’ is undemanding, and that all you need to do is go with the flow. Moving on from anything in life can be challenging and painful. But it’s not impossible! In fact, once you start accepting things the way they are, everything may become simpler and you can begin to move forward on a new path. The art of letting go can be quite difficult to master, but it’s worth the effort.

If you need to let go of things but are struggling, these tips might help you:

Either ‘This’ or ‘That’

The initial step in letting go of things that no longer serve you is making the decision to do so. Set your intention. Decide if you want ‘This’ (staying stuck in past traumas and letting them impinge on your present) or ‘That’ (changing your outlook and walking towards new opportunities and goals). Don’t worry, you don’t need to rush things. Take your time, think things through, and then surrender yourself to this decision fully.

Start Being Open to Life

The biggest mistake that we all make in our lives is harbouring regret over things that have happened. If you want to learn the art of letting go, first, you need to let it all in! Stay open to whatever comes in life and start accepting things just as they are. Once you start welcoming all that life throws your way with an open heart, you will be better able to keep any mishaps in perspective. Now, staying open doesn’t mean being vulnerable. It means being optimistic, curious, receptive to new experiences and deeply grounded in your own self and your presence. This can help you achieve a state of detachment from things in life that may otherwise have a negative effect on your energy and be an obstacle to forging a spiritual connection with the world around you..

Forgiveness is the Key

The best thing you can do to let things go is to accept them and surrender. Accepting doesn’t mean ignoring those things that hurt and depress you. It is actually about letting everything come to you and then allowing it to go through you. Observe your feelings and emotions without necessarily reacting to them. And be kind to yourself, don’t judge yourself for feeling angry or upset. But then, like a cloud in the sky, watch that feeling float away. This can take practice, but stick with it, as it is an important first step in being able to step out of the moment, reflect on it, forgive, and move on.

Value Yourself

If you stay stuck in a place waiting for an apology, you’ll never be able to make it to the next level. To learn the art of letting go, you actually need to let go! Remember that you are in control of you – you’re the CEO of Company You, and are capable of making decisions to ensure it continues to run well. Forgiving or letting go doesn’t mean acknowledging fault, it simply means you value yourself too much to continue dwelling on what has happened.
