Breath work is a simple yet effective rhythmic breathing practice that helps you focus on yourself and your body. It has a connection to kundalini yoga which involves all of your body and mind. This is advantageous for many people for multiple reasons. It can alleviate anxiety and reduce stress. Here are some easy ways to fit breath work into your daily life:
Helps You Calm Down
Have people ever told you to breathe slowly and deeply in order to calm yourself down in a challenging situation? Well, that’s precisely the purpose of breath work, to help bring about relaxation and peace. When you actively focus on your breathing it promotes mindfulness – you are giving your full intention to the practice at hand. This helps you to notice your thoughts and emotions, but not necessarily respond to them if they’re not helpful.
Induces Self-Awareness and Self-Love
There’s plenty of other exercises that can help you get closer to your authentic self, but none match the effectiveness of breath work. During the breathing exercise, stay focused on your breathing, the sensations you notice, and your mind. This helps you connect with yourself and your core being. It’s a great way to promote self-awareness and, by nurturing yourself with regular use of this practice, it’s an important way of expressing self-love, too.
Helps You Fight Your Fears and Traumas
This kundalini yoga practice can be helpful in conquering your fears or to recover from past traumas, by enabling you to connect deeply with yourself, while remaining centred and grounded. Specific mantras can be used to help the practitioner become aware of the root causes of their fears, and then to release them. These mantras are both soothing and empowering and can be life changing
Improves Physical Health
Besides helping with depression and anxiety, breathwork exercises can also be beneficial for bodily wellness. Breathing exercises can result in the release of hormones and chemicals in the body that not only make us feel happier but can aid in the regulation of our physical system, too. This can be good for heart health, digestion and the immune system.
