Did you know that you can use astrology to know about your past lives? It can also tell you about your purpose in this incarnation, and how you can heal any wounds you carry from your most significant past life.
The answer is in two mathematical points that have to do with the orbit of the Moon. These points are called Lunar Nodes. The orbit of the moon intersects with the Earth’s orbit around the Sun at two points. The ascending or North Node is where the Moon moves into the northern hemisphere of the Earth’s orbit, and the descending or South Node is where the Sun enters the southern hemisphere of the Earth’s orbit. The North Node and the South Node are directly opposite each other. If your North Node is in the 10th house, your South Node will be in the 4th. If your North Node is in Pisces, your South Node will be in Virgo.

Your most significant past life will be represented by the South Node. It will have characteristics of both the sign and the house it is in. The South Node tells you information about karma you have to heal, and what you were like in a past life. You have to become a better version of this past life in your current life by doing something completely different than what you chose to do in this past life. The South Node is also a comfort zone of sorts. You naturally gravitate towards matters represented by the sign and house it is in, and it is hard for you to look beyond that.
The North Node is like the spiritual compass for your whole life. It tells you the direction in which you must move in order to fulfill your soul’s purpose and heal the karma you carry over from past lives. Generally, your Saturn return will bring you closer to situations and people related to your North Node. It might be challenging at first to choose things that have to do with your North Node, as it is an area that might not come naturally for you. It brings about challenges so your soul can grow.
Here is a breakdown of the North and South Node in the houses:
North Node in the 1st House – South Node in the 7th House
If your South Node is in the 7th House, that means that in your most significant past life, you lived for others, not for yourself. Perhaps you were a single parent, or you had to look after a large group of siblings because your parents worked or you were all orphaned. Maybe you were married to someone who demanded a lot from you. The thing is that you were your own last priority, and looking after other people was your main purpose in life. In this life, you’re probably selfless and very generous with your loved ones. However, as your North Node is in the 1st House, you need to put yourself first and develop a strong sense of self. Having your North Node in the 1st House is all about discovering your true identity. Your physical appearance might also play an important role in this discovery.
North Node in the 2nd House – South Node in the 8th House
If your South Node is in the 8th House, other people’s money was significant in your past life. Perhaps you were an heiress, or you were totally dependent on your spouse for money. Therapies and processes of transformation were also important during this past life. You may have been a psychiatrist or a psychiatric patient. You depended on someone else for your financial well-being, and you aided processes of transformation or went through those yourself. In this life, the focus is on being financially independent, seeing your own worth as a person and acting accordingly. This is so because your North Node is in the 2nd House. You might struggle thinking you’ll never make it on your own, but you must hone your skills in order to become a self-sufficient professional or entrepreneur. You might have to provide for others, as well. For example, you might end up being the main breadwinner for your family, or you may come from an immigrant family and have a desire to give your parents a better life.
North Node in the 3rd House – South Node in the 9th House
If your South Node is in the 9th House, you might have been a professor or teacher in your most significant past life. You might have also been involved in organized religion, or you dealt with the law and/or foreign matters. Perhaps you were an immigrant in a past life, and had to acclimate to a different country. As your North Node is in the 3rd House, however, in this life, the challenge is all about becoming the student instead of the teacher, and giving back to the community you were born in. You might be tempted to move far away from where you live, but your extended family and neighbors need your wisdom. Your siblings might also play an important role in this incarnation.
North Node in the 4th House – South Node in the 10th House
If your South Node is in the 10th House, in your past life, you were consumed by your career. Perhaps you ended up neglecting your family or your private life as a result. You were focused on building a reputation for yourself and being the best in your field. As your North Node is in the 4th House, in this incarnation, the focus is on your family, your home, and your private life. You may have reincarnated with the souls of the family you neglected, and now the work you have to do is emotional – to be a good child, parent, or sibling. You’ll be tempted to work extra hours and make your career a priority, but life will always push you to go back to your nearest and dearest and give them your best. Your soul’s purpose might also have to do with reconnecting with your roots, doing research on your ancestors, or studying the history of the place you come from.
North Node in the 5th House – South Node in the 11th House
If your South Node is in the 11th House, your friends were very important in your most significant past life. You may have also been an activist of sorts, and may have acted as a voice for the powerless and disenfranchised. You sacrificed your individuality for the common good. As your North Node is in the 5th House, however, the challenge now is to find your own voice and make yourself heard. You might be into the arts, and your purpose has to do with finding yourself as an artist, and not trying to be a voice for the collective again. Your purpose is also about having fun and finding pleasure, though you may be tempted to self-sacrifice for the common good again. If you want to be a parent, your children will be important for your soul’s growth.
North Node in the 6th House – South Node in the 12th House
If your South Node is in the 12th House, you were very spiritual in your past life. You might have also worked in or been an inmate of a jail or mental hospital. You might have suffered from substance abuse. Water may have been significant in your past life – you may have been a sailor, a member of the navy, or worked in a harbour. In this life, as your North Node is in the 6th House, you’re supposed to become a healer of sorts. The challenge is to find your spirituality in the mundane. Your purpose has to do with healing yourself either physically or metaphorically, as well as helping others heal.
North Node in the 7th House – South Node in the 1st House
If your South Node is in the 1st House, you were a bit self-absorbed and all about your ego in your past life. Perhaps you made a living with your physical appearance or by marketing your personality. You may have been a celebrity or a public figure. In your pursuit for expressing who you were, you may have neglected other people who needed your help and guidance. In this life, the challenge is to become selfless. Other people will bring about important lessons for your soul’s growth. A spouse or business partner may be significant in this life.
North Node in the 8th House – South Node in the 2nd House
If your South Node is in the 2nd House, in your past life, you were obsessed with money. You may have had to provide for your family. You made money and then studied how to save it and manage it correctly. This may have stunted your soul’s growth, as you never cared about more spiritual matters and only cared about being wealthy. Your North Node in the 8th House invites you to learn how to let go and start over from scratch. You will go through numerous processes of transformation. Since you may have provided for other people in your last life, in this life, someone else may be providing for you, or you will receive a hefty inheritance.
North Node in the 9th House – South Node in the 3rd House
If your South Node is in the 3rd House, you loved to learn new things in your past life. You were a perpetual student and apprentice, and you were valuable in your community. Your siblings may have been important in this past life. Words and communication may have also been significant in your past life. The challenge in this incarnation is to graduate from student to teacher, and achieve absolute mastery in the subject you feel called upon to study in depth. A move overseas might also bring about valuable lessons, though you may be tempted to stay where you are.
North Node in the 10th House – South Node in the 4th House
If your South Node is in the 4th House, family and the home were of the utmost importance in your past life. Perhaps you were a stay-at-home housewife, or you looked after your parents in their old age. You took pride in your family and your roots. As your North Node is in the 10th House, however, the challenge now is to get out in the world and build a reputation for yourself. Your career will be very important for your soul’s growth, and you can benefit many people by being good at what you choose to do for a living.
North Node in the 11th House – South Node in the 5th House
If your South Node is in the 5th House, you were all about expressing yourself and having fun in your past life. You might have been an artist. It’s also possible you were a bit of a heartbreaker, dating many people casually without caring about their feelings. In this life, the focus is on friendship and fighting for the common good. As your North Node is in the 11th House, you’ll be pushed to sacrifice personal expression to express the collective voice of people who are powerless and exploited. Even though you might be tempted to just have fun and discover yourself, you will be pushed to care for the common good and raise awareness for a cause. Your friends might also be important for your soul’s growth.
North Node in the 12th House – South Node in the 6th House
If your South Node is in the 6th House, you are probably a skeptic who doesn’t have much of an inclination for trying to understand what you can’t see, touch, or prove. In your past life, you were probably a healer of sorts, and you also cared about optimizing processes and making them more efficient. You might have a gift for healing from this life. As your North Node is in the 12th House, the challenge is to have faith in what you can’t see. You are meant to develop your spirituality and perhaps even your psychic powers or your ability to communicate with beings in other planes.

My North node is in the 9th House so mine resonated a lot. I’ve always felt guided to help people through teaching or guiding.
